The type of bank based on its ownership, two of them are corporation bank and national private comercial bank. Corporation bank (State Owned Enterprise) is a comercial bank whose majority of its share owned by the government. On the other hand, national private comercial bank is a bank whose legal entity is Indonesia, whose part or all of its capital owned by Indonesia citizen and or whose legal entity is Indonesia. The presence of various banks triggers the sharp competence among them. The condition surely demands the banking to put a lot of efforts to improve its performance, either in decreasing the risk or increasing the profit. The strategies may develop through the knowledge about asset and liaility management (ALMA). Asset and liaility management is the process of planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling to obtain the set of policies in equity, funding, and asset which are related (coordinated) in achieving the optimum profit with the risk that be brought into play. The ojective of this research is to find out the ALMA condition of corporation bank and national private comercial bank during 2002-2008 and to test the difference of ALMA between both banks. The design of this study is comparative descriptive since this research collect, manage, simplify, present, and analysis the data so that it gives the regular description about an event by observation which was done to compare 2 (two) subjects. The hypothesis testing is done by the parametric statistic technique with the t-test methode, which is the independent sample t-test.
Based on the analysis and discussion, it is concluded that (1) ALMA in corporate bank and national private comercial bank is in the good condition, (2) there is a significant difference of required reserve, Net Foreign Exchange Position, and Capital Adequacy Ratio of corporate bank and national private comercial bank, and (3) there is no significant difference of Cash Ratio and Loan to Deposit Ratio of corporate bank and national private comercial bank.
Based on the conclusions, the suggestions are the banks should improve its financial performance in the next years so that they will be able to anticipate the risk and compete fairly in achieving the interest profit.
